| The Tampa Bay Estuary Program is conducting two workshops this summer utilizing its "Intruders in Paradise" middle-school teaching guide on June 5th and 7th from 8:30 am. to 3 pm.
The first workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 5 at Weedon Island Preserve in St. Petersburg. The second workshop will be held at Palma Sola Botanical Park in Bradenton on June 7.
Private and public school teachers who complete the workshop will receive a $50 stipend, as well as recertification points. Participants also will receive a copy of the "Intruders in Paradise" teaching guide on CD. The guide explores the impacts of non-native, invasive plants and animals on Florida's native habitats and inhabitants.
"Intruders in Paradise" was developed by The Florida Aquarium, with funding and assistance from the Estuary Program and Florida Sea Grant. It features 12 classroom activities, a master vocabulary list, web references, fact sheets, and supplemental materials.
Attendance is limited to 25 teachers per workshop, and pre-registration is required.
