BNB Final Beach Survey Print
Sunday, July 15 2007, 08:00 - 12:00
This Sunday, July 15 at 8 am we have our last beach survey of the season.

Volunteers will walk the whole length of all the beaches of the county, looking for Least Terns, Black Skimmers, American Oystercatchers, Snowy and Wilson's Plovers.

Least Tern Fledgling - click for larger view In this survey, we will also count the ratio of juvenile Least Terns/adults Least Terns; this will give us an idea of their productivity.

As we cover beaches where no nesting occurs but where Least Terns are assembling before their migration south, we need many, many volunteers; we try to all be out at the same time to avoid double-counting fledged LETE.

We are still working on the beach assignments, trying to cover all beaches and to team people with knowledge of all species with chick-checkers, experts in juvenile Least Terns. Quite a few people are on vacation. If you can help, please contact Monique Borboen-Abrams at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
