Discover the tropical butterflies 'south of the
border' with Buck and Linda Cooper.
Traveling from the lowlands near the Texas border down into the Nuevo
Leon and Tamaulipas highlands, cloud forests of Oaxaca and tropical
evergreen forests of Chiapas, they emphasize the abundance and
diversity of species. From the largest swallowtails, crackers and
leafwings to the tiniest hairstreaks, metalmarks and skippers you will
be amazed at their color and beauty as we journey through four Mexican
states.
The Coopers have been traveling and photographing butterflies since
the mid 1990s in Florida, Texas and Mexico. The Cooper's interest in natural history led
them to be resident naturalists at Street Audubon Nature Center in Winter Haven
for 13 years. They have done many year-long butterfly surveys for Florida
state parks and public and private conservation areas, providing them with a
butterfly checklist at the end of the year. They compile six North American
Butterfly Association 4th of July butterfly counts and participate in five
others. They are currently surveying central Florida conservation areas for the Florida Natural Areas Inventory.
