St. Petersburg Audubon 2011-12 Program, Field Trips & Special Events

Don't have binoculars - no problem. SPAS offers loaner binoculars. I normally carry 5 adult and 1 child pair of binoculars to the field trips, available on a first come, first serve basis. If you will need more than one pair please email me a couple of days in advance of the trip.

Car Pooling – not able to drive to out of town trips? How about carpooling! Bring along a couple of friends. Start the trip with a full tank of gas and then fill up when you return to town and split the cost. Not only will you save money, but you'll reduce your impact on the planet!

Enjoy our 2011-2012 program, detailed trip descriptions below.

Formerly the “Kerr Tract” it was purchased by the City of Dunedin in 1965 for $175,000. In 1974 the Dunedin Garden Club helped create the first self-guided nature trail (Sugarberry Trail West) and did extensive studies to identify flora and fauna.

History: When Florida joined the Union in 1845, the U.S. Government sent a team to survey the entire state. The Dunedin Historical Society has a copy of the original 1846 survey map which identified the park as a “wet swamp”. The surveyors’ field notes referred to it as a “hammock”. Remarkably the north-south boundaries of the park set back in 1846 remain to this day, over 165 years later.
